The Gospel of Mark teaches the person and deeds of God revealed in the words and works of his Son, Jesus Christ. His documentation draws on powerful stories and narratives to portray the power and love that he believes Jesus brought to the people. Through this form of writing, Mark has produced a work that is not only highly engaging, but also leaves the reader with vivid images and examples of how Jesus' work and words directly affected those who believed in his teachings. In the first chapter, the baptism scene takes place as John the Baptist prepares the way. This is a very important scene because it shows John's power by having him perform baptisms, which would mean that he is somehow held in great respect and closeness to God. But at the same time John is humble and, as God's promised messenger , his mission is to "prepare the way for the Lord" (Mk 1,2-3). He does this by informing the people that one more powerful than himself is coming (Mark 1:7) and that he, John, was none other than a servant of Christ, and that Christ was his Lord. This is a very vivid scene that is described in detail, from what John eats and wears, to specific dialogue. It is very easy to imagine this scene, especially when Jesus himself is baptized in the Jordan by John. This scene evokes many different emotions and symbolizes a very humble attitude which would be a relevant message today. Although John has been delegated great power as a religious leader, he remains modest in the face of the greater power that exists. He fulfills his mission with dignity and respect, thus setting a strong example for those who admire him. In the second chapter, Jesus returns to Capernaum and begins teaching and gathering followers. As in every compilation of an organization... in the center of the sheet... we are united by the closest bond imaginable, that of family. Jesus redefines family in a way that has nothing to do with blood ties, but with ties to the love of God. This is a very relevant message in every time and age where people discover that they belong to new faiths, thus finding a new community and family. It is often the union and sharing of religious beliefs that brings people together on a personal level and establishes a family-like bond. All in all, there are many powerful stories and images portrayed in the Gospel of Mark to preach the word of God. To establish strong bonds of faith, these texts draw on powerful stories and narratives that connect with readers. Not only do the stories describe the power and love of Jesus, but they teach important lessons that are relevant across time and across all religious beliefs..
