In this essay I will discuss the life and achievements of Elon Musk's life-changing inventions. I chose Elon for his amazing, creative and futuristic inventions. In my opinion, Elon is such an inspiration in the physics world. He overcame what seemed to be the “impossible” which I will discuss in this essay. Say no to plagiarism. The South African native was born to his mother Maye and father Errol. Her mother was a Canadian-born model and dietician. His father was also a South African-born electromechanical engineer. Elon was the eldest of two brothers. His brother Kimbal and his sister Tosca. At the age of ten, Elon's parents divorced, and Elon, spending most of his time with his father, traveled throughout South Africa. Errol was reportedly abusive and cruel to children, especially Elon and his brother Kimbal who often lectured the two brothers for several hours. Although young Elon had a difficult childhood, he managed to make some friends in the harsh culture in which he grew up. Elon thought he made a good group of friends but was continually bullied as he said, “They got my best friend to lure me out of hiding so they could beat me up. And that hurt. For some reason they decided it was me and they would chase me relentlessly. That's what made it difficult growing up. For several years there was no respite at school, you would be chased by gangs who would try to beat the shit out of me, and then I would go home, and it would be terrible there too. Elon's only way to escape bullying and harassment was through technology. Elon attended the English-speaking Waterkloof House Preparatory School. He later graduated from Pretoria Boys' High School (an expensive home computer.) Not long after, his intelligent side created the program/game “Blastar”, a video game with the same concept of “space invaders”. He sold this "code" for the game for an astonishing amount of 500 dollars. He moved at the age of 17 to Canada and later obtained Canadian citizenship in order to better abstain from the South African army whose main objective in the 1980s was apartheid (a policy or system of segregation or discrimination on the grounds of race). After two years of studying at Queen's University, he went to the University of Pennsylvania. At the University of Pennsylvania he earned two majors, a bachelor's degree in physics and one in economics from the Wharton School. The two majors had a huge impact on his future plans. Physics is what sparked his way of thinking and influencing his everyday life. As he said, “physics is a good framework for thinking, reducing things to their fundamental truths and reasoning from there.” During his university years, to pay for his studies, he sold computer parts and complete PCs for some extra money. People on campus would bring him computers full of viruses and he would fix them. In college he was known for being able to solve all computer problems. His entrepreneurial spirit increased dramatically when he and a friend he met in college (Ressi) had a great idea. They were going to buy an old, made-up frat house with ten bedrooms. During weekdays, Musk and Ressi decided to dedicate those days to studying. On weekends they turned the ten-bedroom house into a nightclub. Cover windows with garbage bags and other decorations, making the house pitch black. They would have about five hundred people that would comeat the party and would drink for $5 a head, making an incredible profit, up to $2,500 a weekend to help profit from future inventions. They had a second house, this one had fourteen bedrooms. They set up tables by laying plywood over empty barrels, also used for a “party house.” Elon stated that he would occasionally have vodka and diet Coke. He hoped he could earn enough money for the monthly rent by attending parties every weekend. At 24 he moved to Palo Alto, California, to pursue a doctorate in applied physics at Stanford University. In just two days of the program, he dropped out to start new business ideas. Musk and his younger brother Kimbal, with $28,000 in hand, started "zip2" which supplied, licensed and helped newspapers develop an online city guide. Although Elon wanted to become CEO of the company, the board did not let him. The board of directors sold the company for $307 million plus approximately $34 million. He was given 7% of the sale, equivalent to $22 million. Soon after, he co-founded the company “X-.com” which was an online banking account. He used ten million from the sale of Zip2. Following the bursting of the dot-com bubble and the closure of technology companies, he purchased the Confinity company (another online banking tool) and its money transfer service called “Paypal”. Paypal quickly became the most important part of X.com. Soon after realizing that in 2001 he renamed x.com, PayPal. Paypal has quickly become the most used payment method. Once again the board of directors removed Elon from his position as CEO, resulting in another sale of another company. He sold his Paypal service to Ebay in 2002 and received $165 million for his 11.7% stake he had in the company. In 2001, he went on a trip to Moscow to buy an intercontinental ballistic missile, which he could remodel to carry payloads into space. . Elon and his advisors couldn't see eye to eye and he didn't continue. He tried again in 2002, but failed again because Russian aerospace companies wanted something far exceeding his budget. On his trip back to America, he thought about starting a company to build affordable rockets using vertical integration and modular engineering. All his ideas came together and he launched "Space X" in 2002 with the mission that he could create "a true space civilization." He invested 100 million dollars to start this mission. Its first project was "Falcon 1", which set a record in 2009, being the first privately financed liquid-filled rocket to launch a satellite into Earth orbit. Along the way SpaceX continued to make history. In 2012, SpaceX Dragon docked with the International Space Station. In 2015, the same rocket made history again as the company managed to successfully land the first stage of the Falcon rocket on the launch pad. To make all this possible, NASA donated $1.6 billion to Spacex to fund the missions. Musk didn't slow down and decided to pursue another big project. Back in 2003, the company Tesla Motors Inc. was just born. Two guys, Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning, started this company but failed to get past the first round of funding in 2004. At that time, he came to power by investing $7.5 million in the car company. He already had a request for the car, insisting on a leading Tesla Roadster design and requesting an all-fiber body.
