As part of my study on Admission, Transfer and Discharge, I will discuss my essay regarding the admission of patients suffering from an infectious disease, namely tuberculosis. Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by various strains of mycobacteria, usually Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Tuberculosis typically attacks the lungs and spreads through the air. An individual with active tuberculosis spreads the infection through the air by coughing and sneezing. The most common symptoms of active tuberculosis are persistent cough lasting more than three weeks with bloody sputum, night sweats, lack of appetite and weight loss, breathlessness that is usually mild at first and gradually worsens, and extreme fatigue with unexplained pain . The rate of tuberculosis is very high among high-risk groups, particularly the elderly, smokers and those with compromised immune systems such as people living with HIV, malnutrition and diabetes. social work I was assigned to work in one of the challenging departments of the university hospital. Manual or paper and electronic records are used to admit patients. Electronic registration is used to enter patient details into the hospital database and during this process a patient hospital number is created. Manual recording is done on paper and must be written in black ink, and a 24-hour clock must be used to enter manual or electronic recording. It is also important that each page of the documentation contains the patient's data, in particular the name, hospital number and date of birth. In some cases, a sticker label is made mainly because it is very convex...... in the center of the paper...... and to be organized, even if the number of side rooms in the teaching hospital is very limited. Staff were well trained in following the trust policy relating to infection control and patient isolation procedure. It is also vital that important details of a patient such as allergies, past medical history, family history, social history are checked where they can be linked to the patient's current condition as mentioned in my patient scenario where he had a history of tuberculosis before migration to the UK where it may be related to the patient's current condition. Furthermore, doctors and dieticians advised the patient to make some necessary changes in his lifestyle, mainly in his smoking habit. The possible spread of the infection was prevented and the patient had a safe journey during hospitalization.
