The term “cultural appropriation” is vaguely known in today's society. This is a big contradiction because many people are responsible for it. The definition of cultural appropriation is taking an aspect of a different culture, especially a lower social class, and degrading it, devaluing its importance (“What is cultural appropriation, anyway?”). It is important to understand and recognize the existence of cultural appropriation, educating people on the correct ways to interact with different cultures, so that every person, of every culture, is equally respected. Cultural appropriation occurs by stripping historical, religious and cultural heritage. context of something, to make it mass marketable (Joshi). This can be defined as the reproduction of the elements of a certain culture; for purely aesthetic value (Neti). It is problematic because it strips away meaning and cultural context; making the new adoption meaningless (Joshi). It reveals the power imbalance that still remains evident between cultures that have been colonized and those that have been colonized (Uwujaren). It must be recognized that not all cultures will welcome stranger adoption (Uwujaren). Appropriation is ultimately about age-old patterns of appropriation, theft, exploitation, and misunderstanding of the history and symbols that make different cultures important (Uwujaren). It is essential not to have prejudices; we need to educate ourselves on the symbols and cultures that are used without understanding them and on the historical and social aspects that must be recognized (Uwujaren). There are a variety of forms in which cultural appropriation can be found. Anything that involves using a culture in a superficial or superficial way is a......middle of paper......operate is problematic (Neti). In the United States there is a history of cultural appropriation of marginalized populations (“Culture Clash”). It is important to educate others that it is harmful to appropriate it because it removes cultural meaning and makes it appear that cultural aspects can be specifically selected (Neti). Cultural appropriation is a vaguely known term, in a society it is so commonly done. It devalues the significance of a cultural aspect for aesthetic purposes. Many cultures are willing to share some of their components globally, but it should be known that not all will do so. These decisions must be respected by people of other cultures, so that everyone feels equal. Cultural appropriation is a real concept and must be understood, acknowledged, and taught to those who don't know, so that everyone in every culture feels valued.
