Dr. Bandura has been used in numerous studies, in different countries, across various age groups, and across different genres. His theory has been cited in several articles, implying that social cognitive theory generates empirical research and is also widely generalizable. I believe that Bandura's social cognitive theory is really beneficial for me and other individuals as well. This approach can be applied to the practical problems of life. For example, Bandura argues that a person cannot learn to swim if he has first drowned. Therefore a person must first observe a swimming model to learn the basics of swimming. To learn, Bandura suggests the observer pay attention to the patterns. In this context, the observer would pay attention to the expert swimmer. By watching the expert model swim, the observer is able to retain the model's behavior to imitate it later. This is what Bandura called the retention process. By retaining the information, the observer enacts the performance by transforming the obvious actions, which is the production process. During this process the observer actually displays the learned behavior. Subsequently, the individual learns by indirectly observing someone else. This performance goes hand in hand with driving a car, it must be learned through vicarious reinforcement, not direct reinforcement. If a person learns through direct reinforcement, trial and error will be induced. Learning through trial and error is dangerous because it can lead to death (Schultz & Schultz, 2013). There are several cases where this theory can be applied to clients of African descent. If I were a doctor I would definitely take this approach. I think... halfway through the document... members of their group's responsibility. Personally, Bandura's theory is my favorite so far. I believe this theory can be applied to everyone and everyone will benefit from social learning theory. Based on my life experiences, this theory has been applied to my life in numerous ways. As a graduate student life gets tough and sometimes you need someone to look to for basic motivation. I have several models that inspire me. One of the models is a classmate, after failing an exam I observed their study techniques and started using them. Using the same technique I passed the next exam and reinforced that behavior for the other exams. I will continue to use Bandura's theory and apply it to my daily life. Life is all about learning and I am happy to be able to use this approach in an effort to continue learning and teaching others.
