Topic > Draft Reinstatement - 875

When you enjoy the freedoms you have living in the United States, you can thank those men and women who serve in the armed forces. But in recent years, our military has seen a decline in enlistments, which has reignited an old debate. Should we reinstate the military draft? This question has sparked a nationwide debate, among friends, family and even complete strangers. Reinstating the draft is just one way to ensure that people can continue to enjoy the freedoms that the military has fought for over the years. With all the controversy over compulsory military service, past and recent incidents have shown a greater need to protect us from those who wish to harm us. The continued decline in conscription and a greater need to protect our freedoms and way of life have shown a growing need for some sort of compulsory conscription. Conscription offers a far greater benefit to our society than many might imagine. First, it provides the personnel needed to continually defend our nation and its borders, both near and abroad, providing the country with much-needed personnel before an emergency occurs, rather than having to prepare after it occurs. Secondly, it provides beneficial training, education and structure to our sons, daughters, grandchildren so as to help them improve their future and provide skills, training and educational benefits to help them pursue their educational goals. the most important and fundamental argument against the draft is moral. Some believe that the draft is a form of slavery and there is no way around it. Some believe that forcing a person to work for the state is involuntary servitude. By forcing a person to fight, kill, and possibly destroy... middle of paper... this world, a person can learn to respect authority and will use the skills learned no matter how hard they try to do so. forget them. Nor do I believe that extreme nationalism or xenophobia would be created by requiring a person to serve. With all the pros and cons of reinstating the military draft, and all the debate, questions and concerns that revolve around this very issue. You can be sure that, just like the last 50 years, this debate will continue for another 50 years. As you have read, the pros seem to far outweigh the cons when it comes to this topic. From the continued protection of our freedoms, to the benefits it will bring to individuals and society as a whole, you should agree that reinstating the draft is the best option for us. So God bless those men and women who currently serve us and protect us while we sleep. They are the true heroes of this world.
