Stem Cell Research Paper In recent years, stem cell research has been very famous through the scientific community and the media. Stem cells are pluripotent cells present in every single organism on Earth. The power of stem cells is beyond imagination. Stem cells have the power to transform into any type of cell. Some examples are blood cells, nerves, heart muscles and the list goes on and on. The scientific community has recently shown great interest in stem cells. They have used stem cells to cure the horrible misfortunes that people have been diagnosed with. Some examples of diseases that are treated with the use of stem cells are Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, spinal cord problems, stroke, diabetes, damaged organs and even cancer! However, despite the infinite potential of medical treatments, the topic of stem cells is surrounded by enormous controversy. The questions fueling the controversy concern how stem cells are acquired and how the knowledge gained would be used. However, it is necessary for humanity to keep stem cell research alive to save lives and at the same time deal with any unethical arguments about it. There are three ways to acquire a stem cell sample. The first method, which consists in the extraction of an embryonic cell, is very controversial. This embryonic cell can be extracted from aborted fetuses, with the permission of the woman who aborted. Most people believe it is unethical to use fetuses. However, if you don't use it, it simply goes to waste. Why not let the fetus help save someone's life? The second method to extract stem cells is through the umbilical cord. The umbilical cord is rich in stem cells. The newborn's blood cells can be used when ... middle of paper ... other races. Other people worry that stem cells are too dangerous to play with, thinking they could cause a new retrovirus or cancer. Some people even believe that we should stop playing “God” and that we should let human nature take its course. However, the only way to stop these fears is to conduct more research and studies on this topic. Keep in mind that the topic of stem cells is only a few years old. The potential possibilities and possible lives saved may outweigh current issues with the topic such as funding or ethics. With new extraction methods such as umbilical cord extraction and adult stem cells we can almost forget about the “unethical” method of the fetus. This field of study can also strengthen the economy by creating new jobs. To summarize, stem cell research is a new study with great potential, however it needs some modifications.
