Obama's proposal will particularly affect the Yakima Valley. In Rafael Guerrero's article he talks to the president of Yakima Valley Community College, Linda Kaminski, about Obama's proposal to make the first two years of community college free. She agrees that this would be a good idea, she says, “. . . middle-income students are often ineligible, forcing them to work to pay tuition. . . Obama's proposal would alleviate the stress placed on these students seeking to obtain a college education.” In making this comment, he believes that if a student receives financial aid, it can benefit him or her in the classroom by focusing all of his or her attention on class work and not having to worry about a job that would usually help pay for tuition. Having the first two years free would give people hope and encouragement to continue their education. Kaminski attacks when he says: “Even high school students could be more motivated. . . For whatever reason students may not want to go to college – lack of resources, family problems, work – the measure would reduce the reasons for not focusing, studying and completing high school to their fullest potential.” In other words, she believes no one's potential should be limited for financial reasons. If approved, the proposal will give students the motivation to continue their education there
