Topic > Political Parties in the United States - 1812

Political parties have existed almost since the beginning of this great country. Although George Washington strongly opposed political parties and also warned the nation to stay away from forming political parties, the first political parties were formed right under his nose. The first parties began in George Washington's cabinet. The cause of these parties was simply difference of opinion. The thought leaders of these two completely different parties were Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton. Jefferson began what was then known as Republican or Anti-Federalist. On the other hand, Hamilton started what was known as the Federalist Party. Both these parties were formed in the eighteenth century. These two parties have evolved to be known today as the Democratic and Republican parties. In contrast, one of the largest third-party groups, the Tea Party was formed just recently, in the year two thousand and nine. All three of these political parties influence our government today. The Democratic Party has undergone many changes over the years since its creation in 1792. One of the biggest changes has to be the name change, from originally known as the Antifederalist or Democratic Republican to being known today as the Democratic Party. They initially did not support the Constitution and were against big government. The party was formed by Thomas Jefferson, supported limited government that reserved much power for the states, and supported America's little man. One of the party's major conflicts was the eighteen-sixty election. Before the election the party was divided on the issue of slavery. In the elections the party was forced to present two candidates or... middle of paper... to reform the requirements for legal immigration. Tea Party members believe there should currently be no path to citizenship for illegal immigrants. live in the countryside. They also support increased funding for border patrol. Likewise they believe that illegal immigrants who commit crimes should be punished severely. I believe immigration needs major reforms. I believe that illegal immigrants currently here should be deported and have to reapply before they can return. I also support stronger border protection in the form of walls and personnel. My Party Personally, I am a Republican. This is due to my beliefs and values, I tend to have a more traditional ideology. Overall, on most key issues I tend to be more conservative. For example, I am pro-life, pro-Second Amendment rights, and anti-gay marriage. In conclusion, I believe that my view on most issues is closest to that of the Republican Party.
