Topic > Comparison of Revolutions - 1002

In the last hundred years there have been four revolutions that have changed the world, and each revolution has greatly shaped its country into the great nation it is today. France, Russia, England and America were all radically changed by the revolutions that shook their countries. Each of these revolutions began due to tyrannical, oppressive, and unjust governments. However, these revolutions were not all the same. Two were quite successful, while the other two not so much. The difference between the two successful revolutions and the two failed revolutions is like night versus day, good versus evil, and order versus chaos. The English Revolution and Civil War were the first to occur. The English Civil War was a war between Charles, a tyrannical king who wanted to rule England alone, and Parliament who wanted to limit his powers and rule England jointly. The Royalists and King Charles fought against the Parliamentarians, but the Parliamentarians won. When the parliamentarians won, the trial of King Charles I was held, the exile of his son Charles II; and the replacement of the English monarchy with, first, the Commonwealth of England (1649–53) and then the Protectorate (1653–59) under the personal rule of Oliver Cromwell. The Church of England's monopoly on Christian worship in England ended with the victors consolidating the established Protestant ascendancy in Ireland. Constitutionally, the war set the precedent that an English monarch cannot rule without the consent of Parliament, but this was not upheld and a later king again attempted to rule without parliament, which led to bloodless revolution. The Bloodless Revolution was a war between the Catholic king of England and his son-in-law who was Protestant. Its so...... middle of paper...... every day. Both the American and British Revolutions resulted in their governments improving greatly, moving from monarchical rule to more democratic and controlled governments. Their revolutions helped give freedom to the people, helped countries prosper and thrive, and gave the people a government that represented them and had secure power. Unfortunately, in Russia and France, for a period of time after the uprisings against their respective governments, there were mass massacres, unstable governments, dictatorships and even more tyranny. It took some time and a lot of unnecessary suffering to finally establish governments that served the people, and not the other way around. All four revolutions made each country great, but France and Russia had to endure much more chaos and death for citizens to gain their freedom and rights..
