Topic > Sport for Social Change Case Study - 2104

There has been discussion about how a program theory needs to be realistic and “dive deep” to find mechanisms that foster change (Kay 2002; Coalter, 2012). Effective monitoring and evaluation would allow the practitioner to gain insight into the mechanisms by examining the qualitative aspects of the program, such as the relationships built between the practitioner and the participant (Adams and Harris, 2014). There has also been reflection on the importance of a sustainable program in order to satisfy key program stakeholders (Houlihan and Green, 2010). Furthermore, there was a critique of the “Community Innovation Project”, Sports Fusion, and there was a comparison between the literature presented and the actions of the program. Overall, the program needs to examine how and why it impacts participants, through more qualitative monitoring and evaluation. Finally, the program needs to take a deeper look at how it can make itself more sustainable by investing more time in communicating with program partners and plan a more appropriate way for the program to continue once their activity ends.
