This cultural geography course taught me new and old ideas along with theories that help shape the world. Before starting this course, I wasn't sure how much I would like it. I have never been interested in geography and have always neglected ideas of culture. It was an idea I had never really understood. However, these ideas were broader and more interesting than I expected. I began to understand what geographers meant and what was all encompassed in the idea of cultural geography. The world is always changing, and I've learned that cultural geography is a way to keep up with what's changing and understand how the world got to where it is. Geography is the study of all these changes that will shape our future world, the environment and the beliefs within it (Greiner 2012). Cultural geography changed my worldview and I learned aspects of geography that piqued my interest to learn more in and beyond this course. The first idea I learned was human geography, which is the study of people and the environment around them (Greiner 2012). It was then that one begins to learn about aspects of nature, culture and place and how they all relate to each other (Greiner 2012). He showed me that he sees the world as a special place that needs healing. Later the ideas of globalization and cultural geography expanded on the thoughts discussed in human geography to describe the beliefs of some people in certain regions (Greiner 2012). This begins to set up the rest of the book. We talk about studies on populations and the movement of immigrants, also known as migration (Greiner 2012). Discussing how the world got to where it is today, especially in the United States... middle of paper... how well culture correlates with and can be used to describe technological advances and new innovations. My cultural geography course has had a greater influence on my thoughts about the world than I ever imagined. My mentality is very different and I respect the work of geographers. I started this course thinking that their work was irrelevant and boring, but I learned that the tasks and jobs of the geographer are important to our history. It also helps to watch to determine trends. I analyzed my preconceived notions and realized the importance of culture and geography and how intriguing it really is to learn about them. This course is one of the most fun I have taken since attending Oklahoma State University. Works Cited Greiner, Alyson L.. Visualizing Human Geography.
