The DREAM Act definitely affects families with a racial/ethnic background due to where their parents immigrated from. This law will allow these ethnic children to be able to attend higher education if they have graduated high school or earned their GED. This not only affects the children of this family, but also the parents. Most parents want to bring their children to the United States for the best possible life they can receive. The DREAM Act allows this to happen under certain criteria necessary to be eligible. Their children finally have a policy on their side that allows them to maximize their potential. Some people would consider families that are not legal not real families in the United States, which is why I think this policy affects them. Since this law cannot help parents as they do not meet the requirements, it helps children get one step closer to legality. It is allowing these children to potentially gain full legal status here in the United States if they comply with the rules and regulations of the DREAM Act of completing college or serving time in prison.
