Heritage is a broad concept as it can mean many different things and have many definitions, for example "circumstances or benefits passed down from previous generations, it maintains close contact with the concept of heritage " . Although it may not be a thing but perhaps an inherited title” (Howard, estate management, interpretation, identity). This quote shows that heritage can be the understanding of something old, new, tangible and the emphasis on special qualities and the fact that we have inherited from the past. Heritage tourism has grown rapidly in recent years for the same reasons that have led to the growth of tourism in general including, for example, increased leisure time, greater disposable income, the development of package holidays and the increase of mobility due to the growth in car ownership. (Timothy and Boyd, 2003) There are also more specific reasons why interest in cultural tourism has grown and these are, there are higher levels of education, for example cultural tourism may be a subject in its own right or it may involve geography, history and science, which can lead them to attend colleges and universities, so from 10 to 25 years old or perhaps higher they can learn about cultural tourism. Another reason for growth is media portrayals, particularly on TV, of heritage themes from other countries, which can include buildings and monuments, people's lifestyles, and special events and festivals. Competition from heritage sites and funding pressure have simulated traditional museums becoming more imaginative. and easy to use so that the number of visitors increases. Most historic sites such as monuments and museums such as all Tyne and Wear Beamish museums and art galleries etc. have increased in visi...... middle of paper ......f schools that do day trips, i.e. raise children's awareness at a young age of what is there and the history in the areas.
