The next two leaders were Nikita Khrushchev and next was Leonid Brezhnev. Nikita Khrushchev was the next leader of the Soviet Union; he had taken over Stalin's old post of being general secretary. Khrushchev had many experiences under Stalin; he was involved in the Five Year Plans, the purges and the Second World War. Khrushchev's policy involved negative aspects arising from resentment towards the rich and complaints. Its positive aspects would be that everyone is equal and life would be better overall. Khrushchev believed that Stalin distorted the idea of communism. So, to put it nicely, Khrushchev hated Stalin. Khrushchev delivered a "secret report", in which he talked about all the horrible things Stalin had done for the USSR. The main thing Khrushchev said was that Stalin unfairly persecuted the communists, Stalin miscalculated with Hitler and World War II, and allowed and encouraged the cult leadership. Khrushchev's goal was to undermine Stalin's supporters, the thought that if you turn away from bad things, sooner or later good things will happen. He then initiated something that outsiders called “de-Stalinization.” This completely stopped Stalin's praise. This led to a rift with some leaders, one of whom was Mao and came from China.
