The Machine Stops by EM Forster uses a dystopian society to show how one lives effortlessly, without knowing any other places, to demonstrate that the world will never be perfect, even though it may seem so. A society whose citizens are kept ignorant and lazy, unaware that they are being controlled, unable to act if they did, all hidden under the guise of a perfect utopian paradise, much like the one seen in The Machine Stops, could become a very real possibility. There is a rational concern about what is happening in the world today that is shared by many, and with good reason. Dystopian worlds are often seen as fictional, although this may not be the case in the future. Many people have no interest in current events in the world or even in their own country, and are more concerned with more mundane matters, and even if they were to pay close attention, common news sources are often biased and do not release information that could harm a certain cause.
