Suddenly, my nerves turned to excitement. I smiled big, dropped my bags, and tried to act as friendly as possible. "HELLO! I'm Liv!" I blurted out. "Hey. I'm Lauren. Take the middle bed," she said. She pointed to a bed on which there were a stack of files with my name on them. She looked nice, but she wasn't as excited to see me as I was to see her. She, though, was the only person who came to Girl's State from her school. I kept making conversation and smiled until my cheeks hurt. I thought about how quickly my nervousness turned to happiness and concluded that I deal with loneliness by smiling. In the end, Lauren she began to feel more comfortable with me; I think she was too nervous to be friendly at first. As my first day continued, I noticed how others dealt with being out of their comfort zone, Helen , dealt with the situation by staying stern. Our mayor, Mackenzie, approached the situation with a humorous spirit. Some girls asked questions, others remained silent; some girls talked about their activities and others played games on their phones. I guess I didn't make the best impression by taking the time to notice how each person on my floor dealt with being alone and nervous, but I sure smiled a lot
