The most notable thing about literature is its effect on society and the individual. Every now and then a book is published that truly concerns those who read it. Divergent happens to be one of those books. Divergent is an extreme view of the differences between the virtues that humans value to form the perfect society. The content of the book is almost philosophical, serving as nourishment for the heart and soul, and at the same time highlighting the many problems we face in modern society through subliminal quotes that coincide wonderfully with the story. One such quote can be found on page 441 and it says, “Human beings as a whole cannot be good for long before evil creeps in again and poisons us again.” He almost breaks the third wall. Human beings are born with both flaws and goodness. We are a double-edged sword with extreme potential on both counts. Deep down there is something dark in each of us. There are those who can control it and those who are weak and succumb to it. A truly good person is never free of evil, a good person stares at evil until evil overtakes them...
