Franklin brought us out of the depression that had been sustained by the failures of his predecessors such as Herbert Hoover and Coolage to the Roaring Twenties. FDR was a brilliant politician who steered us away from having growing fear and anxiety in our society, obviously his famous line, but FDR directed us and took us in the right direction to be a stronger nation mostly through the unifying effect of the Second World War. FDR uses his specific use of parallel structure and uses specific generalizations to encourage the common man to step forward to tap into his potential. And together, without the efforts of past generations, we can live not in their shadow but in the effort to create unity and justice. A simple speech to the nation looking ahead and the fear grew into what I could have been and we must live for it
