IntroductionToday globalization has a great impact on places. There are multicultural areas in Australia. However, some places are developing in the nation due to localization. Some areas such as Chinatown still have a strong ethnicity in Australia. What is the gap between globalized places and localized places? Furthermore, what concept is best applied to such places? I argue that it is difficult to apply globalization or localization in terms of spatial sociology because both concepts have positive effects and negative effects individually. First, this article will explore what space is sociologically and define it. Secondly, this article will also define globalization and localization using sociological terms. After defining some concepts, this article will discuss the positive and negative effects of the two concepts. Furthermore, as an intermediate concept between the two concepts, this article will explore what glocalization is. In conclusion, this article will show the main topic again by summarizing what was discussed in the introduction and main paragraphs. Space The study of space is important in sociology because it is closely related to human activity in society. For example, spatial sociologists study how natural space is transformed into social space in society, how individuals and communities use it, what kind of forces and processes influence their use, and how natural space and social space are related to forces and processes, individuals and communities (Gans 2002). And spatial sociology can be interpreted by applying some concepts to explain what happens in natural or social spaces (Gans 2002). These concepts are divided into land use, land value, location, density, proximity, neighborhood effect... middle of paper... both globalization and localization have positive and negative effects in terms of spatial sociology. The globalization of space is creating networks of global cities to stimulate economic activity, meanwhile, the globalization of space creates a spatial hierarchy. Space localization supports people fighting with other groups if social cohesion is achieved, however, space localization creates some dangerous areas such as slums, and this problem is difficult to solve. Therefore, it is difficult to decide which concept is superior to the other. Alternatively, glocalization takes an intermediate position between globalization and localization by mixing both concepts. This is why it is worth applying glocalization to space from a sociological point of view since there is the possibility of including the positive sides of both globalization and localization even though it may include negative effects of the two concepts.
