Stress is an adaptive response moderated by individual differences that is a consequence of an action, situation, or event that places special demands on a person. Stressors are situations of actions or events that place special demands on a person. Three important categories of stressors are the work environment (e.g., chemical radiation, temperature); (2) individual stressors (e.g., role conflict, work overload, change); and (3) group and organizational stressors (e.g., political culture, interpersonal relationships, downsizing). It is well known that stress has affected many employees in the workplace. Depending on the severity of the stressful events, they may perhaps contribute to substance abuse, lack of sleep, alcoholism, divorce, anxiety, and heart attacks (Bethel University, p. 191). In the case study "No response from monitor 23" Paul Keller appears to be a perfectionist. Paul is normally punctual with his daily countdown tasks. In the Ignition minus 35 minutes, Paul is overworked and restless. Going forward, Paul could set a timer, to avoid missing deadlines set by the master controllers. Paul should consider getting adequate rest every night and not allowing small accidents to stress him out. Paul began to allow work-related stress to take over his personal relationships with his family. Paul's behavioral outburst turned into further tension. Paul will also have to admit that his family is not his problem, work is not his problem, it is him anyway. Paul must learn to plan properly and admit his shortcomings instead of blaming others for his problems. Paul must also learn ways to let go of his pride and ask for assistance when needed. In some cases, the general public can carry their own... medium of paper, and call for help when bombarded. In this case, before Keller's possible stroke, when the supervisor saw Keller's various symptoms, he should have talked to him when the warning signs began. Bottom line, if the supervisor had failed to get in touch with Keller, it might have made it mandatory for Keller to seek assistance through the Employee Assistance Program (EAP). The EAP Service is a free, confidential resource for employees who provide services for life and health events, as well as information provided for wellness programs. Wellness programs emphasize hypertension, identifying and controlling and managing work and personal stress. Providing stress management tips to employees on a monthly basis will ensure that each individual is aware of how to maintain a balanced lifestyle between work and family (Bethel University, 2011).
