Some people are never forgotten. Both Rubin and James have had difficult lives. However, each boxer has overcome many different adversities. These two men faced the toughest opponents outside the ring and they weren't alone. When Rubin fought racism and segregation, James fought the Great Depression and fed his family. The Great Depression spread across the world almost instantly; while racism and segregation mostly affected blacks, it was still a terrible issue. James, just like most of America, was a victim of the Great Depression. Rubin, just like many other famous people, has been a victim of racism and inequality. Racial segregation was a serious issue, especially during the 1950s and 1960s. As many know, the civil rights movement took place during this time. The hatred for African Americans during this time; especially in the southern states, it was atrocious. Malcolm Little and Martin Luther King Jr. were assassinated for standing up for what they believe in and expressing their opinions. Malcolm changed his name from Malcolm Little to Malcolm X. He did this because he said that X would replace his slave name Little. He wanted to be and feel free; he didn't want to feel like he was once his property. Malcolm Little was murdered in 1965. He was shot while giving a speech. He was shot several times in the chest. Before he was killed, he was the founder and leader of the African American Unity. X condoned, pushed and prosecuted violence to get his point across. He often disagreed with MLKJ. King didn't believe in violence, but both still wanted equal rights and an end to racism. MLKJ was an American pastor, activist, humanitarian, and leader of the African-American civil rights movement. In 1971 he gave a very well-known speech, perhaps one of the most famous... in the newspaper... on draft evasion. The charges were instead dismissed on a technicality. During all this the court revoked his boxing title, so he couldn't box; they also revoked his passport. They took his passport so he couldn't flee the United States to fight. It's hard to say who got the worst of it, because it's hard to understand the terrible times of each hero. Rubin and James both had their own issues to overcome. James fought through the Great Depression, while Carter contested racial issues and later suffered from prostate cancer. Ultimately, no one will ever understand why a person faces life's rigorous challenges or their own personal difficulties. What gives the person the motivation to keep going and fight until the end, because no one will ever understand the amount of fear someone truly faces, unless of course you are that person.
