The goal of this article is to explore the relationship between death anxiety and an individual's self-esteem. “Death Anxiety” and “Self-esteem” will be the main variables of the research. Death anxiety can be defined as the awareness of the inevitability of death, which leads many people to experience a profound sense of dread (Harmon-Jones et al., 1997). Human beings are unique due to their ability to learn and adapt to live with an awareness of their own mortality. It is the task of cultural systems to symbolize death and provide meaning to its occurrence, as well as interpret its superiority over human life (Becker, 1973). Death anxiety is a multidimensional concept, revolving around fear and anxiety related to the reality of death and the expectation of it happening. This fear could be based on various emotional, cognitive and motivational components that depend on the developmental stage and sociocultural life events (Letho, 2009). Second concept in this research: “Self-esteem” is defined as self-confidence and satisfaction, self-respect” (Merriam-Webster). In this research, self-esteem will be seen from two sides: intrinsic and extrinsic, since the consistency of the individual's self-esteem depends on both: internal and external factors, as specified in the self-esteem contingencies scale. In this case, the measurements were conveyed through an analysis of internal and external sources of self-esteem, which are: approval of others, physical appearance, dominance over others in competition, academic competence, family love and support, being a virtuous person or morality. , and the love of God (Crocker et al., 2003). The confrontation with death and the anxiety created by its inevitability can be considered a notable dilemma for human beings (Letho, 200...... middle of the document...... improved work performance and increased academic skills .Harmon-Jones assumes that higher self-esteem protects them from experiencing anxiety (Brewer, 2002). This research was based on the findings of previous studies with the main aim of exploring the relationship between death anxiety and self-esteem if most previous studies have shown no relationship or a negative relationship between the main research variables, a positive correlation can be expected. Therefore the hypothesis of this research is that individuals with higher self-esteem would be less afraid of death It is important to pass on this research to find out if the relationship between strength of self-esteem and fear of inevitable death exists. It could lead to effective prevention of self-harming behaviors such as suicide in individuals with low self-esteem.
