Rebecca and Sam woke up early in the morning and could hear the birds singing in the tree outside the window. The sun was shining so bright and the day was so warm. They looked out the window and saw such a beautiful day. They hurried, jumped out of bed and got dressed. Rebecca and Sam ran down the stairs so fast they almost tripped over each other, but they made it in one piece. They started running to the kitchen to eat breakfast, but stopped in the living room and found their mother asleep on the couch again. On the coffee table was a large bottle with only a small amount of liquid in it. They knew their mom wouldn't be awake today. Unfortunately they finished going to the kitchen. Rebecca and Sam had breakfast for the fifth day in a row. Another day of cereal without milk because mom hadn't gone to the store yet. They both began to miss their father so much. He had only been gone two weeks, but they were so afraid that they would never see him again and that their mother would no longer love them. As they finished their breakfast, they could hear the birds singing again and it made them smile. They wanted to go to the park today, but their mom couldn't take them. They knew she shouldn't have gone alone, but the day was so hot and Mom probably wouldn't have woken up there anyway. Then they went upstairs and brushed their hair and teeth. They got their roller skates and then Rebecca and Sam quietly went back downstairs. They peeked at their mom again. Yep, I'm still sound asleep. Rebecca and Sam walked calmly towards the front door. They carefully turned the handle and opened the door. They shot a... half a page... very sad. Their stomachs rumbled again. Rebecca and Sam decided it was time to go home and eat. They were also worried that their mother would wake up early and find them missing. Then they went into the bush and retrieved the skates. They sat down and put them on. Once again they tied the shoelaces together and threw the shoes over their shoulders. Rebecca and Sam skated home, all the while thinking about what a wonderful sunny day it had been and how lucky all those people were. Rebecca and Sam felt very sad and very alone. Rebecca and Sam wanted their mom or dad to spend time with them just like the parents of the children did in the park. It makes them feel like they have no one and are alone. It makes them sad and they have tears running down their faces. They hugged each other and wished their family could go do something like this together one of these days.
