Topic > Inevitable or Avoidable: The American Civil War

The greatest war that ever happened was the Civil War. This was the deadliest and most painful war between the North and the South. This war lasted for four consecutive years, from 1861 to 1865. So many events led to this war that made it so brutal. I believe that the events that took place to start the civil war could have easily been avoided with just a little bit of communication that wasn't being used at the time. I don't think anything that happened in those four years should have happened the way it did. The first major reason the war broke out was because the South believed in owning slaves, while the North did not. The South wanted all nations to join the cause of owning African American slaves, but President Abraham Lincoln did not approve. No one in the slave-owning South really wanted Abraham Lincoln to be elected president. They knew that if he were elected their chances of continuing to own slaves would soon be over. Southern states loved owning slaves, they made so much money and benefits from owning slaves. Ever since Abraham Lincoln became president and tried to eliminate slavery, they felt like he was trying to take money away from them. I feel like there could have been a way that the Southern states and President Abraham Lincoln could have discussed something. Both parties had a reason and were very protective about how they felt. The South loved owning slaves, but if they could have understood where Abraham Lincoln was coming from with his point of view, perhaps the issue could have been resolved. Lincoln considered the situation where owning slaves was disrespectful and simply mean. He knew that human beings are all the same and the way they treated the states at that time was so painful to see. They would have beaten… middle of the card… they would have overcome the major events that could have been avoided before the Civil War. Some people believe that nothing could have prevented this brutal fight, but I think otherwise. The main tension was between the South and Abraham Lincoln. Southerners did not despise Abraham Lincoln as a person, but they hated his ideas. The main reason they feared Lincoln becoming president was because he did not believe in slavery. The South looked like Lincoln was basically trying to take their money away, because slave owners made a lot of money at that time. The North and the South have many social and economic differences, which both have not even tried to talk about. All incidents that occurred before the war could have been discussed and negotiated. Maybe talking about some problems would have saved our country from the four brutal years we have experienced.
