CorruptionCorruption is any act that deviates from accepted moral norms or standards;deprivation of integrity. It manifests itself in many ways, it can concern: misappropriation of public funds, acceptance or solicitation of bribes, extortion, abuse of power... etc. It is one of the greatest social evils, it has the potential to erode all achievements. , we fought so hard to make it happen, if not outright thwart it. The judiciary is one area where corruption is so rampant. A judge can be bribed, so that a ruling can be swayed in one party's favor, a trial can be sped up or delayed, or a compliant can be dismissed. This goes against the very purpose of the judiciary: to ensure fairness in the legal process. Politicians can also interfere with the appointment of judges, voting for their friends, to create loopholes for committing corruption. Judicial staff should be given adequate remuneration, commensurate with their experience and competence, this will discourage them from accepting bribes. Furthermore, an independent body should be responsible for overseeing the appointments. These actions will reduce the incidence of corruption. Another area where corruption manifests itself is politics. Politicians can disrupt the electoral process by bribing voters, intimidating them, or inflating ballot papers, in order to influence the results in favor of a preferred candidate rather than the one supported by the electorate. Furthermore, public employees can embezzle public funds intended for economic development to finance their political ambitions. Public servants should be accountable to the people they are meant to serve. This can be done by legislating regulations, requiring them to disclose their source of funding and specify their responsibilities. At… middle of paper… corporations do not disclose the identities of their shareholders and subsidiaries, thus providing an opportunity for corrupt individuals to hide their ill-gotten wealth. Furthermore, they provide inadequate or no financial information, making it impossible to control the revenue generated. Without these financial documents, they cannot be held accountable. Mining companies should make use of their own financial records, to enable monitoring and inspection, and also to disclose shareholders. Businesses that do not adhere to this regulation should not be allowed to operate. Corruption has far-reaching ramifications in society, it is everyone's responsibility to fight it. The problem must be addressed at the national and grassroots level. To do this it is necessary that the public is enlightened on the forms and ways to deal with it. We risk human extinction if we don't act quickly.
