Andrea Jung was born in 1959 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and raised in Wellesley, Massachusetts. Jung graduated magna cum laude from Princeton University and later planned to pursue law school. Jung had gotten a job training her to be a manager at Bloomingdale's, allowing her to enter the field of law. He did so well in this job that he continued to work at a different job and began his debut at I. Magnin & Company as senior vice president and general manager of merchandising. Subsequently, he handled accessories, cosmetics and apparel matters as executive vice president of Neiman Marcus. The law quickly faded as the fashion world caught up with Jung. In 1993, Jung joined Avon Products, Inc. as a consultant and, for her hard work, was soon promoted in 1994 to president of the product marketing group for U.S. operations. Jung worked on introducing more modern lines while continuing the company's traditional branding efforts. He introduced hits like the Avon Apparel line and suggested eliminating a large number of old Avon fragrances to make way for new ones. Jung spent time learning about the company and quickly prospered at the top. In 1996 she became president of global marketing, and in 1997 she became executive vice president and president of global marketing and new business. Jung's main responsibilities centered on market research, joint ventures and strategic planning. Shortly thereafter, she became president and chief operating officer, with responsibility for all of Avon's business units worldwide. Since 1998, Jung has served on the board of directors of Avon, and in 1999, when the company was not doing very well, Jung was named CEO of Avon Products Inc. at the age of 43 and the first female CEO in the company's history . ... middle of paper ...... Avon cosmetics are now sold in 143 different countries with a 41% increase in profits. Jung revamped Avon when she took over and used a low-cost, company-wide strategy to gain a competitive advantage. Avon used new technology to expand worldwide and became more profitable thanks to Jung's hard work and passion. Jung, 53, has helped Avon expand internationally and increase its support of women's causes, such as fighting breast cancer and domestic violence. In recent years, however, it has faced high-profile financial and legal issues, such as declining sales in the United States, falling stock prices and an investigation into alleged corruption of foreign officials, leading to its downfall and to resignation..
