Various investigations and findings by renowned researchers highlight the way and extent to which young people are involved in intimate relationships and can become victims of domestic violence (Barter et al., 2010). Domestic violence among young people is hidden because it is expected to affect the elderly; the government definition also specifies the “adult” nature of the abuse. The research will further explore how the effect of domestic violence makes some young people fearful of speaking out. We will then go on to examine the impact of emotional and social abuse on young people when domestic violence occurs. On the other hand, it will look at how physical and emotional harm has a major effect on the young person's life and the potential effects it could have on the young person in later life. Barking and Dagenham Council has stated that domestic violence not only occurs among adults but also among young people (teenagers), which is starting to create awareness within society (NHS Barking and Dagenham). This is commonly referred to as teen “dating” abuse. Without prejudice to the objectives of this project, research was carried out on the term “dating” within US society and it was found that the broader international literature accepted the term “dating” to define this part of the research. However, this term does not fit well in the UK context because most young people do not use or recognize the term “dating” in their native language. Some may think that dating is an excessive formality that does not necessarily reflect the wide range of dating and intimate relationships young people have. US research shows it focuses on physical or sexual violence. His research also confirms the high prevalence of partner v… half of the document… intimate partner violence” OR “domestic abuse” And among young people, this gave me results of 5,329,746, which was a bit too much. To narrow down the search, English was suggested as the language, which brought the search to 3,122,248 clicked on academic journals, which took the search to 609,485. These results were still quite high, however, with specific publication dates suggested, it was possible to assign dates from 2008 to 2015, this suggested the subject area, which was domestic violence ", "youth and intimate partner violence", which drastically narrowed my search leaving me with 5,881. This made it easier to search for recent journals. With this I was able to begin the process of my research, which will help me in creation and development
