Topic > What I have learned in my role as an educational leader from…

1. What insights have I gained from these chapters about my role as an educational leader?A. These chapters enlightened me about the suffering of different ethnic and immigrant groups. For example, I better understand the origins and motivations of the nativist movement and am convinced that by engaging students in meaningful dialogue and discussion I can convince these young people of the benefits of immigration. Likewise, these chapters have changed my understanding of the ace in schools and the struggle that different cultural groups have faced regarding the issue of fair respect for their race in the public school system. For example, many sports fans and groups do not understand the offense and anger that Native Americans have toward them regarding the use of Indian mascots (Koppelman, 2015, p. 104). Additionally, I was able to recognize the differences between the various types of racism students encounter and help develop ways to combat discrimination.2. What American nativist attitudes will I work to deflate in my school?A. The nativist attitude that I will work hardest to reduce is the idea of Americanization because too many in my community believe that immigrants should abandon their culture and become more American (Koppelman, 2015, p. 75). For example, there have been several incidents of bullying and fighting because students do not want immigrant students to display their heritage flags or wear cultural clothing; when asked, students thought these immigrant students should be more like Americans. Likewise, it is important to dispel the feeling that many students only have English because they think that anyone who enters this country should be forced to learn and speak English...... middle of paper ......hy I should support bilingual programs during my leadership?A. As a school leader, it is important to support curricula and programs that enable my students to be career ready. For these reasons, this is why I believe it is important to ensure that our students are exposed to different languages. To illustrate this point and ensure that our country remains safe and secure, schools may need to start teaching Farsi. This will allow us to train a number of global negotiators and politicians who could help secure peaceful solutions to world conflicts. Likewise, for economic and commercial reasons, companies are looking for bilingual employees to enable them to establish business relationships around the world. Finally, by promoting it in high schools we could encourage a new group of language teachers (Koppelman, 2015, p.. 90).
