Historical imperialism was a practice most commonly used by Europeans in the late 19th century and continues to influence the societies upon which it was imposed to the present day. These societies – usually made up of indigenous peoples in Canada, Africa, Sudan and many other places – were oppressed until some of their cultural beliefs and practices were lost forever, which significantly affects them today. Furthermore, treaties were made that may have been short-term solutions back then, but were in no way long-term solutions and so now there are ongoing issues relating to land claims that the government has refused to resolve. Although the government has done something to try to correct these past mistakes, much of it comes too late and does little for the current state of these people who have suffered at the hands of European imperialism. This does not mean, however, that nothing should be done in an attempt to compensate. Canada's indigenous peoples are an excellent example of the effects of the enduring legacy of historical imperialism. When Europeans first arrived in Canada, they quickly colonized and chased away the indigenous people who were already here without giving them a single thought. They were forced to attend residential schools in an attempt to satisfy Canada's aggressive assimilation policy. Although the rationale for this policy seemed good in the context of the time, Canada felt responsible to help educate the indigenous people, as it believed their best chance for success in the world was to learn English and forget their customs and beliefs traditional, which hoped to abolish it within a few decades. Canadian governments have in recent years attempted to correct these past mistakes by offering money and apologies as compensation... middle of paper... for civil war, displacement and violent conflict, and despite all attempts on their part and other countries to change the government made up of Northerners left in power by the colonizing powers that once governed it, have no choice but to become independent from Sudan. Historical imperialism has made the world what it is today, and while this has led to some countries becoming contemporary, powerful countries that lead the majority of the population, it has led to the downfall, unrest, unrest and impoverishment of others villages. . For some countries, responding to the legacies of historical imperialism is not necessary, since their standard of living has been excellent thanks to these legacies. But for others, answering the right way is a complex question, and the vast number of opinions on what should be done only complicates the situation further..
