When our new Republic began, various leaders came forward with differing opinions on how to govern this new, nascent nation. It appears the right leadership has stepped forward at the right time to move this country forward into a stronger republic. I will mention how Washington, Hamilton, and Jefferson each possessed unique qualities as their power came into play producing a stronger, more vibrant nation. There were many opportunities for the future, but Washington's cool mind, ability to raise a militia and repay states' debts helped make the nation stronger, as well as someone who could articulate states' rights, proved crucial in the development of a democratic society. I will try to highlight some characteristics of each man and his characteristics have helped this country move forward. Our new country faced many difficulties when it became “a republic on an immense scale, there were some great men who had very different thinking who helped this country become a government capable of surviving in its early years. The country at its inception was militarily weak, economically shaky and politically dismantled. The process of developing a new nation was something that no other people had attempted and that traditional political theory deemed impossible. The population was doubling every 25 years, 90% of the people lived in rural areas and from the outside foreigners looked down on the people here because they were rude and uncouth. When George Washington was elected president, he was considered the “Sword of the Revolution” p155 He was a distinguished Virginian, who had been a great strategist and leader willing to stay with that goal and not give up, also he had led the troops to victory in the.. . means of paper... and protect democracy at home. His point of view was to move inland into the Appalachian frontiers. As one might surmise, the Louisiana Purchase was an example of this movement inward. Washington was a very strong man who led his troops to victory during the Revolutionary War. When he was named the first president, he refused to participate in a war, especially when our new nation would likely be overthrown farewell speech, which appeared in the newspapers, made a call to avoid permanent alliances and rather to enter into temporary agreements with countries in exceptional circumstances Washington's ability to remain neutral even as both Britain and France tried to attract ours new nation in conflict allowed our nation to become stronger and better equipped to handle other problems we would face in the future.
