Topic > Analysis of King Lear - 934

The British drama King Lear was written by William Shakespeare and gave a very strong message to the audience. The message was that you can't really trust anyone in this world, because even the people who mean the most to you can stab you in the back when you least expect it. Take Lear for example, he went from being a good noble king to a mad man in a couple of days. One of the reasons Lear went so mad was that he divided his kingdom between his two daughters who declared their love for him and banished his youngest daughter for not lying about how much she loved him like her two brothers. That's not the worst part though, the main reason he went crazy was because the two daughters he thought loved him so much did nothing but stab him in the back, after all all he did was love and care for them them for life. Through the play, you can tell that Lear is a passionate man but also a very violent and temperate person through his actions. For example, at the beginning of the play he banishes his daughter Cordelia for not expressing her love to him, he becomes so furious about this because he loved Cordelia more than all his children. I think he gets so angry because he feels like she's ungrateful for everything she's done for his favorite little girl because she just doesn't want to say how she feels about him. At the same time that he is banishing Cordelia, his most loyal servant Kent tries to intervene and defend Cordelia. He does this because he knows Regan and Goneril are lying about how much he means to them. He tries to make Lear understand that he is making a big mistake in banishing Cordelia because she is the only one who had any truth behind the words she said to Lear. The problem was that Lear is already out...... middle of paper ......ar and Cordelia are held captive by a captain acting as a mercenary. Goneril had poisoned Regan, which explains why Regan feels ill at the end of the war. Regan ends up dying and Goneril kills himself right next to his now deceased sister. Cordelia is hanged by the mercenary and is now left alone to see all her children dead right in front of them. With nothing but heartbreak Lear ends up dying heartbroken. If I had been Lear I think the same thing would have happened to me, yes he went to war against his two daughters who stabbed him in the back, but the last thing he wanted to see was them dead. If I too saw all my children dead in front of me, I'm pretty sure I would go so crazy with heartbreak that I would either fly into a rage and try to kill the people who killed my daughter(s), or I would do it too I. die with a broken heart.
