Many of us know Miss Diana Ross, an African American artist. Her career as an actress and singer is what brought her to fame. She is nicknamed Miss Ross. Here's something you might not know, her birth name is Diane Ernestine Earle Ross. However her birth certificate says Diana. She was born and raised here in Detroit, Michigan. The place where most babies are born in Detroit was also Hutzel Women's Hospital. On March 26, 1944, a star entered town with far greater potential than anyone could have ever expected. She lived near Detroit's North End (woodward) area and later moved to the Brewster projects. Miss Diana Ross attended a high school that all Detroiters know, Cass Technical HS. She discovered her talent at a very young age when she started singing in the church choir. It was shortly after that his career began to grow. At the age of fifteen she was offered to join a group of young girls known as The Primettes. They were not able to sign a recording contract until the year 1961. The girls were signed by Motown Records and Lu Pine Records. Diana had graduated from Cass Tech around this time at the age of seventeen. The group consisted of four girls Mary Wilson, Florence Ballard and Barbara Martin, including Miss Ross. In 1967, the group was renamed Diana Ross and The Supremes. Soon Florence moved away and was replaced with a new girl, Cindy. They started by doing local talent shows and progressed from there. Diana and the Supremes performed and released soul pop, rock and R&B music. By 1964 the Supremes had released eight singles. None of the eight songs even made it into the top 20 category. They didn't give up even if it meant late night studio sessions. Finally, towards the end... middle of the paper... real American Music Awards. Ross was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988 as part of the Supremes” (Duckett, 2013). In 2007, she was also awarded an award for her hard work when she received the BET Lifetime Achievement Award. Ross was honored by Michael Jackson in the year 2009. He named her as possible guardian of his children. The list goes on. Diana Ernestine Earle Ross is very influential when it comes to the music industry. Even today people have doubts about us young people entering the field of music. They feel like making a career out of rapping, singing, or acting is a one in a million thing. Especially, being born and raised in Detroit. Diana gave us hope. He is an idol that many of us look up to. Ross is a very successful woman and one day someone with as much potential as her will follow in her footsteps.
