When a student graduates from the Radiologic Technology Program, their education isn't exactly over. Radiologic Technologists (RTs) are required to continue their education after graduation by collecting continuing education credits. You can collect them through the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) and the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). In the context of Continuing Education, continuous professional training involves specific learning activities generally characterized by the issuing of a certificate or continuing education credits. There are many ways to receive continuing education credits, but there are also requirements and qualifications that must be met in order to receive them. There are many advantages to having to “continue your education,” but there are also some disadvantages. According to the ARRT, “The purpose of continuing education (CE) requirements is to provide a mechanism for registered technologists to fulfill their responsibility to maintain proficiency in their respective certification categories.” Essentially, this means that both the ASRT and ARRT require the radiological technologist to demonstrate their competence in the field by completing these credits. Not only must the RT complete these credits every two years, but they must also renew their registration as a radiological technologist. The CE requirements for a Technologist are 24 credits and the CE requirements for an RRA are 50 credits every two years. "CE credits must be earned during the two-year period ending on the last date of the month preceding the individual's birth month" and any already registered Technologist must continue their original reporting program based on......half of sheet... ... The second component of a CQR process is a self-assessment. This component will allow the RT to see their specific strengths and weaknesses not only in the knowledge of the profession, but also in the qualification-based skills of those obtaining certification. The final component of a CQR process is the results of your self-assessment. You must complete continuing education activities based on your specific areas of weakness. The main benefit of the CQR process is that it provides evidence that the technologist is up to date with their knowledge and skills. In the field of radiological technology it is essential to continue your education. The benefits of doing so include the fact that one allows for growth and development throughout your professional career and another is that you learn new skills and keep up with new equipment.
