In “King Lear” several characters contribute to the opposite fall of Cordelia and Edmund. From the beginning of the play Shakespeare gives us a glimpse of Cordelia's trait of honesty, a trait that would gain respect for this quality, unfortunately it is exactly the opposite. The conflict begins when Cordelia is honest with her father about how she feels about him. Throughout the play we know what Lears' two daughters are doing, but there was one daughter who had different motivations, Cordelia. He never took part in the attempt to win over his father. At the beginning of the play Goneril and Reagen express to their father how much they love him and care for him while Cordelia makes it clear that she will not. I think the reason he does this is because this isn't how he wants to show his father how much he cares and he also didn't want it to seem like he was trying to outdo his sisters. Unfortunately, because Cordelia did not participate in the talks about her father as he would have liked, she was banished from the Kingdom. The audience gets to see Cordelia's true personality when this happens, how she remains the same and never seeks revenge on her father. She is portrayed as a kind and honest woman. In fact, she is the only kind-hearted one in the play. Goneril and Reagen always knew that Cordelia was Lear's favorite, so when we banished her they were relieved. Cordelia was not angry at Lear when she was banished. His concern was more about the lie that Goneril and Reagan had told Lear. “Time will reveal what tormented cunning hides, which ultimately covers up flaws with the mockery of shame. Well, you may prosper. This was what she told Goneril and Reagan after she was banished and left in France. Cordelia demonstrating her... middle of paper ......continued to suffer by reminding him daily that he was not worthy of being a male child and the only one by law. Cordelia's death was caused by the fact that she never stopped loving her father and still felt the need to protect him even after everything that had happened. So her love for him was ultimately the reason she returned to help him, but that was when Edmund himself had her captured and hanged. As for Edmund, the cause of his death was the lack of love in his life which caused him to become the bitter and vengeful person he was. Who ultimately created their own death? His lies and stories made everyone realize that power wasn't everything and that causing problems for others will only create problems for you. Edmund learned that his lie came back to haunt him and he was killed by the one he started the lie about, his brother Edgar. Both Cordelia and Edmund were loved but could not be saved.
