I) IntroThe Niagara River is the river that connects two large lakes together and is located in Ontario, Canada. It connects Lake Ontario to Lake Erie. One landform found in these parts, which you may be familiar with, is the Welland Canal which is used so ships can get around the falls. The Welland Canal was first opened in 1829 and this version of the Canal was dug by hand. The canal has been widened and deepened over time and the last modification was made in 1959. It is operated by the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation and has allowed ships to bypass the incredible Niagara Falls found in the Niagara River. , as well as the rapids on the river. (1)The Niagara River flows from south to north and then flows from Lake Erie to Lake Ontario. In some places the Niagara River also flows into the United States of America. The total length of the river is fifty-eight kilometers. The river changes at certain points along its path and becomes two rivers. This happens in Grand Island. Here, the Niagara River turns into the West and East Canal. The Western Channel was known as the Canadian Channel or Chippawa Channel, while the Eastern Channel was called the American Channel or Tonawanda Channel. (2) The Niagara River is truly one of a kind in the way it drains water along the ninety-nine meter drop along which it flows. The water discharged varies depending on the time of day and season as some of the water is diverted to create hydroelectric power. The daytime volume of water over Niagara Falls during the tourist season, April 1 to October 31, shall not be less than 2,832 m3/s. During the winter months, outside the tourist season, water flowed over the Fa... middle of paper... two were then under the influence of marijuana and cocaine. An amusing incident occurred during the construction of the dam. This involved a man who drove a truck worth $50,000 over the edge of the dam into the Niagara River, and then proceeded to do the same thing with another truck worth as much the following week. (7)A curious fact to underline is the desire that many people have to go over the waterfalls in a barrel. Since the falls were discovered, 14 incredibly brave, or incredibly stupid, people have crossed them in a barrel. One person ended up in a barrel and survived, one of the few who did, and the next day he slipped on a banana peel and died. The people who crossed the falls and survived have lived in legacy and the people who died have been honored, but one thing is for sure: the government is taking every precaution possible so that no one else does something like this.!
