Case Study Analysis: New Structure Type Today's businesses are looking for an edge that will keep them competitive. Pfizer has done just that with what they call PfizerWorks. The process allows employees to “shift tedious and time-consuming tasks to one of two Indian service outsourcing companies” (Robbins, DeCenzo, Coulter, 2015). Pfizer isn't the first company to outsource its work to help reduce costs and improve efficiency. The unique thing about this program is that they do it with time-consuming tasks while allowing their employees to work on the tasks they were hired for. You can see it as Indian companies are sent to buy groceries by allowing Pfizer employees (the cooks) to prepare the food. This paper will look at how Pfizer employees are more productive, how it would work in other organizations, the overall look or impact on organizational culture, and how this approach would work in my business. Pfizer's Work Structure Pfizer's idea to remove these tedious and extremely time-consuming elements and outsource them to another company is a genius move in so many ways. They were able to reduce costs and improve profits by outsourcing these tasks to people who earn much less than Pfizer employees. In efficient terms, this allows the Pfizer employee to focus on the tasks for which they were hired. Why ask someone to do a job that costs $5 an hour when you pay them $20? This question now has an answer: you don't. Hadley Baldwin (2015) provided four improvements needed to succeed as a leader today. They were embracing collaboration, learning more about your business, following the money, and thinking of you and your team. PfizerWorks caters to everything......middle of paper......Corporate culture has already started to change as American subsidiaries are no longer seen as lone wolves but as we are now all on a With a similar structure we are considered as one large company. Conclusion PfizerWorks appears to be a model of efficiency and effectiveness, as seen in the responses received since its implementation. The idea of outsourcing is not new, but the way Pfizer uses it can be considered unique. The program shows that it is possible to achieve a fusion between mechanistic and organic organizational structures, allowing the bureaucratic part and low centralization from both structures. These types of ideas and structures are what all types of businesses need to continue to be competitive in today's environment. As seen in my company's example, this type of structure can also lead to a better and stronger organizational culture.
