Globalization is a set of mechanisms that are altering the world order, thus intensifying social relations worldwide. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of ways globalization can be defined as it is altering every aspect of life. However, when examining the universal structure of the global order; the world is divided into two categories: center and periphery (Steif). Basically, the world is divided for national development. In the case of intergroup relations, core states could be considered in-group because they directly benefit from globalization and global wealth, hence the world powers (Steif). In contrast, peripheral states can be considered the outgroup because these states have not shared developmental advantages (Steif). The global structure of categorization by development has allowed the intergroup to be determined through capitalist pursuit and resource nationalism. Furthermore, these policies have transformed the social and economic order of developing states. For example, American culture is known to be considered the culture of consumerism. Fundamentally, social, economic, and political policies shape each other; ultimately influencing the social identity of its citizens. Furthermore, on average the core states are mostly made up of Western nations that share the same political and economic structure of development. Having said that, this article will define globalization as the process of Westernization and modernization and its influence in inter-group and out-group conflict. Westernization has become a dominant social process in which non-Western tradition and culture is being converted into more Western ones. practices (Lal). On the other hand, modernization is the political element...... at the heart of development.Works CitedWorks Cited:Annis, Roger.
