This compare and contrast essay is about two versions of "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street". The two versions of the story that will be compared in this essay are the screenplay and the short story. The essay will include similarities and differences regarding the plot, how the construction of the screenplay differs from the short story, the differences between the two genres and how they affect the reader, and my opinion on which genre I preferred and why. First of all, we have some similarities between the two genres. Overall the stories are very similar, the basic plot does not differ between the two stories. Another similarity is that in both stories the monsters were truly themselves in the end, they all turned against each other for a reason; illogical thoughts. The setting remains the same between the two genres along with many details. Additionally, most of the characters' personalities and dialogues are the same, although they vary at times. Another similarity is that all the characters have the same reason why they are considered monsters, like Ned Rosen/Mr. Goodman was accused of being a monster because he stargazed in the early hours of the morning, and this was found very suspicious. There aren't many drastic similarities between the two genres, however there are many differences. Next, we have some differences between the two genres. One big difference is that the screenplay has actions and scenes separate from the dialogue, which gives you a more detailed view of Maple Street rather than the narrative. Another way the two stories differ is that in the short story the events are not as dramatic as they seemed in the script, for example, when explaining the sound of the light flashing overhead the script says "[Tommy looks up... .. . half of the paper ......stic. I was very impressed by the ending of the story, because it was more intense. Finally, which genre do I prefer and why was happening. It also gave a better view of what Maple Street was like. I felt that the TV version had more clarity on the situations that occurred. In my opinion, the author tried too hard simplistic, easier to follow and far easier to understand. Overall, the two genres have many twists, many differences and many similarities. Both have positive and negative differences, but they are also the same in many ways. Both have unique and twisted endings, leaving the reader amazed by the unexpected turn of events, regardless of which genre you prefer..
