The book of Genesis reveals the mystery of the origin of the universe, of man and of all creatures. From the beginning, God has his plan for the entire world. This book tells us the story of how God chose Abraham and his descendants as his people and why he made a covenant with them. Through the story of creation and Abraham's family, it is made clear that God is the Creator, Governor and Preserver of all things. Later, God gave Abraham the rite of circumcision as a special sign of the covenant. This covenant is conditional, so that every male of Abraham is circumcised.
