Starting a company is hard. According to Statistics Brain (Statistics Brain, 2014), only 55% of service companies are still in business after 4 years. I started a small business to help parents navigate the healthcare and education systems when they suspect their children may have learning disabilities. Organizational culture is incredibly important to company success, especially in challenging times. Organizational culture is defined as “beliefs, assumptions, and values that members of a group share regarding rules of conduct, leadership styles, administrative procedures, rituals, and customs” (Akbar Ahmadi, Salamzadeh, Daraei, & Akbari, 2012, p. 287). Assuming the company founders are disciplined managers, it may be helpful to establish common behaviors and rituals early in the company's formation to facilitate management and governance so that the large and disparate set of startup activities can flow smoothly. Since starting a company will be difficult, it is important to understand how establishing a culture in a startup early on will allow for the intense focus needed to successfully launch a new consulting services firm. The tasks of creating a company begin with deciding what problem a specific market needs to be solved, then choosing a business structure, carrying out direct market research, developing strategy, determining how to finance the company and, above all, who will be part of the founding team. Companies with multiple founders are more successful; entrepreneurship is teamwork. (Aulet, 2013). Finding cofounders with similar values is a key component to company success.
