Topic > Analysis of Formalist Criticism in King Lear - 1022

In the play of King Lear you really have to focus on what is happening and the situations that might occur either in the act or the scene of the play or both. In Shakespeare's work my theory is formalist criticism. The question you will probably ask yourself is: why “formalist criticism”? Well, throughout the show we listen to the characters and learn what's going on and who they really are. We all human beings have our own thoughts with the knowledge we know. It should only be examined in terms because we don't all know the same thing. Shakespeare has his own way of dealing with his plays and he really knows how to try to twist your mind into what's happening and makes you pay attention and really wonder how the end is going to come out. When you read the play you may not immediately understand the scenes, but as the scenes and acts progress, you begin to absorb more and more of the characters and King Lear himself. In King Lear most of the act concerns the division of his castle and throne divided into three for his daughters which he wishes to give and who also wish to have it from him. However, he himself does not want to give it up. He talks about it early on in scene 1 and act 1. This actually follows most of the play and is why he starts to have a lot more complications of anger and aggression. He doesn't seem to know what to do because of the fights that take place throughout the show. The reader will begin to realize who the characters really are and the state of mind they have developed. Some people when you first meet them you can think of two things about them: you might like them or you might not like them. They often say don't let someone's innocence or sweetness lose you in them. I... middle of paper... in them. After a while Edgar vanishes and Edmund returns and begins to tell Albany about the letter and the battle that is about to happen. He does this because he hopes that she can maybe stop him and find a way out. The battle begins and after a while he returns informing them about the battle and what happened in the battle. Well he informs them that in the battle Lear and his team lost and also captured Cordilia telling them. Glouster will continue to stay where he is and let them go where he is and kill him there: he doesn't want to go where they are and wants them to come to him. The fight doesn't last long and is over not long after it began. Eventually Goneril and Regan were united. They finally arrive and discover that what will aid in the division of Lear's kingdom is his castle. And later Glouster will end up becoming king.
