There isn't even a specific length that has to be. One would tend to see free verse poetry as if it were someone speaking. By having a poem in free verse, it allows the reader to better understand what the poem is about. The various structures that a poem can take can sometimes take away and distract from the meaning and intention of the poem. It had been my home for so long, and it was probably where I would have spent the rest of my short life if I hadn't felt this sense of unease. I sighed deeply and began to close the door. “Calm down, buddy,” I murmured as he barked at something. He had a tendency to bark at objects and things that never actually existed, so I didn't think twice about it. But when I turned around, I caught my gaze on something, or better yet, someone.
