Benjamin Franklin's inventions were as revolutionary as the century itself. Benjamin Franklin was born in Boston, Massachusetts on January 17, 1706. Franklin grew up to be a great man who would help greatly in the creation of our nation. Although Ben Franklin is well known, not much attention is paid to his great inventions; the Franklin stove, bifocal lenses and mapping of the Gulf Stream are some of his inventions. All of Franklin's inventions had a different impact on people's lives. People used to light the fireplace to keep warm, but the problem was that when the fire burned, the heat from the fireplace increased, leaving the house with little heat. The only way to keep warm was to huddle near the stove. In winter, if anyone had company for someone who was not next to the stove, it would be cold, except the people in the stove room. When Benjamin Franklin became aware of these problems, he decided to find a way to solve them. (Benton) (ushistory.org) Benjamin Franklin began work on his version of a fireplace in 1741 and it was completed and announced in 1742. It was a cast iron fireplace with pipes running through the house and leading all out of the chimney. The construction of the fireplace had to overcome many problems before it could become practical and functional. Franklin had to find a way to keep the smoke from the stove from entering the house and at the same time produce more heat in the house. Although Franklin is the only one credited with making the Franklin stove, Franklin had used the research of others; most of Franklin's concept was a combination of the main points of a French scientist's book written in 1713 and research by Dutch physician Herman Boerhaave. (Benton)After being invented......middle of paper......f his invention, a more modern and advanced version would not be present in our lives today.Works CitedBenton, Michael. “Ben Franklin Stove” Benjamin Franklin Venturio Media, November 6. 2013.
