The drinking age in America should be changed because the tax revenues caused by the increase in the drinking population will pay more taxes for the alcohol produced. The maturity of the adult population changes over three years, but adults can drink in other countries while struggling for this. In the year 1919, alcohol prohibition was introduced in America. Tax revenues from alcohol would increase due to the increased population of people purchasing alcohol. Between eighteen and twenty year olds there is no tolerance for alcohol laws in all of America. In the state of North Carolina, along with other states, at age twenty-one and above the alcohol level is 0.08%. Many European and South American countries have a lower drinking age, such as Germany which is sixteen. However, teenagers in Germany can only buy beer instead of liquor. Introducing minor alcoholic beverages to adults at age eighteen reduces the amount of negative effects of excessive alcohol consumption. The drinking age in Australia is eighteen; however, some citizens in their country do not agree with drinking and have tried to raise the drinking age to twenty-one to follow America. 50% of Australians support raising the age, but the remaining 50% support a drinking age of eighteen. In Australia, raising the drinking age would not stop 18-year-olds from drinking. The law on drinking at a younger age also applies to American standards. Many adults in America at the age of eighteen do not have the privilege of drinking, which drastically affects maturity and economics. Alcohol can affect adults of various ages, but the legal drinking age does not require adults to pay due to the law on alcohol consumption. Adults in... middle of paper... would increase because there would be more jobs and more rules for drinking at eighteen. Other countries such as Germany, Australia and the United Kingdom believe their young people are more mature, because their drinking age is lower. Young people in other countries, such as Germany, are more responsible in drinking alcoholic beverages. Germany and the UK have an increasing population of children drinking at a young age, but introduce alcohol consumption to children safely. The drinking population is more common in European countries which shows that there are fewer alcoholics impacting society. Teenagers in other countries become an important part of society at the age when most children in America are becoming average drivers. However, the maturity of citizens in European countries varies depending on the drinking age. Many adults would mature faster and have more jobs and higher taxes.
