Laws should be few, because if life is lived simply, order will arise spontaneously. As Daoism has evolved, it has become more positive about human culture and the rules needed to support it. Monastic Daoism offered many norms of proper behavior (Molloy, 2013). Equally interesting are the connections with the martial arts that inspire Daoism. It was not Daoist masters who devoted themselves to martial arts, but martial arts masters who, at a specific time, turned to Daoism to explain the meaning of their art (Allen, 2014).
