Just like many other reformers, his beliefs coexisted with those of Martin Luther. Lutheranism began to lose momentum, and Calvin kept the Reformation alive through his new doctrines. God has an eternal selection, from which predestination and the elect come. He tries to justify why some people are good and some are bad by saying that not all souls can be saved. “By predestination we mean the eternal degree of God. . . not everyone is created equally. . . some are preordained to eternal life, others to eternal damnation. . . predestined to life or death. . .” (Calvin). This gives God new authority and keeps the reformation alive for Protestantism
