They say your character is built by life's challenges. Esperanza is the perfect example of this. Even though he goes through difficult times, he still manages to find the strength to persevere in his dreams and ambitions. In the book “The House on Mango Street” Sandra Cisneros tells the story of a young Latina named Esperanza. In the story he goes through hardships trying to escape Mango Street or poverty. Throughout the story, characters are introduced by stories from Esperanza's time on Mango Street. These characters thought of Esperanza becoming independent through their good and bad influences during her childhood. To start, one character that is introduced is Marin. He is someone Esperanza can look up to and feel comfortable with. Esperanza admires Marin because she doesn't make her feel uncomfortable or ashamed.
