Topic > Privacy V. Security - 805

For years people have fought for the power and freedom to govern and live free and together as a strong united nation, but due to recent events our nation and our opinions are you become more and more distant and distant. It seems like the main focus among people is whether we should be pro-security or pro-privacy. And of course there are those who look from both sides and sit in the middle. But what does our nation really need right now to stay strong and protected from the threats that wait inside and outside our doors. This is what I will talk about in my essay. I will cover both sides of the argument by providing evidence to show why people in favor of security or privacy would feel the way they do. But in the end I will state my point of view as a pro-safety person. My main arguments will be that security is more important than privacy, the impact of less security, why telling people more about what the government is doing will be bad for the nation. When it comes to being pro-privacy there is this belief that the government has failed to protect people's privacy or that the government itself has done too much to the point that people want the government to kind of back down and give people more freedom to do what they do every day without feeling like someone is always watching them. But what is privacy without security? This is what I would ask of someone who is pro-privacy. I would also tell them to imagine this example: If you were on your computer and you put files and other things that you wouldn't want others to see, you would have some form of security to prevent people from accessing them. ... middle of the paper ... would have been allowed to happen. So just because the NSA and other companies watching over us prevent threats from happening, is it okay for them to keep an eye on us? If I were asked this question, I would have to take a moment to think about how this could not go well. If the government couldn't watch over us, who knows how bad the world would be right now. I believe that if we had more security and if the government had more freedom to police, then part of me believes that events like Sandy Hook, the Aurora shooting, and the recent shipyard shooting could have been avoided. Because we don't usually expect tragedies like these to happen on our doorstep. But they do, and until the government can analyze the information they gather without upsetting the public, events like these would have a better chance of being prevented..
