(Abraham Lincoln) “Democracy is government of the people, by the people, and for the people. However, democracy does not guarantee triumph in the same way that its lack does not guarantee failure. way of governing a nation, taking into account the opinions of all citizens, prevents corrupt governments and maintains peace and stable transitions between governments. It is proven that democracy is the most effective form of government that benefits the citizens of a country. Countries such as Canada, France, the United States and the United Kingdom, to name a few, have prospered thanks to their democratic values and systems. Even though China is the world's second largest economy, its autocratic government still tightly reigns over its citizens through free speech and the right to vote, causing potential social inequality and long-term instability. Democracy states that every citizen in a democratic nation has equal power and that decisions affecting its citizens must be voted on, directly or through designated representatives. So many political systems have been tried and failed for the simple reason that they do not have the interests of the people in mind. Furthermore, there are numerous merits as to why a democracy should be the system of choice. The course of history has shown that, not only do powerful men love money, but as a direct result of this, governments can be influenced to make decisions that are not necessarily in the best interests of the people. As the kings of England and Scotland, respectively, Charles I and James I were ma......middle of paper......ronment and decisions are made collectively through consultations with various interest groups (not only a responsible person), thus limiting the potential for corruption. A democratic nation has free speech, high human rights, a vibrant civil society, and its people are fully involved in decision-making. Democracy prevents the monopoly of power. This is because the ruling party has to compete with other parties in the next elections at the end of its term. This therefore ensures that the power currently in power works for the people, towards their needs or they run the risk of not being re-elected. People have the right and freedom to criticize their government and policies, without fear of being censored or penalized for their action. Democracy ensures that government transitions are completed through a peaceful process, rather than violent means.
